Preparing the perfect cup of coffee for yourself is easy because you can test and tweak the measurements however you like. But getting the measurements right even when you’re preparing a large batch makes you a total master.

So keep reading to find out the best coffee-to-water ratio no matter the volume of the coffee you’re prepping.

How Many Tablespoons of Coffee Per Cup Is Good?

For an 8 ounce cup of water, put in 2 tablespoons of ground coffee for the perfect brew. This measurement will give you a pretty strong cup of coffee. So if you don’t want such a robust kick, try putting in 1 tablespoon for every 8 ounces instead.

If you’re preparing coffee for others, you can always ask their preference too.

How Many Grams of Coffee Per Cup?

To get the SCA-recommended Golden Cup of Coffee, for every 8-ounce cup of water, put in 14 grams of ground coffee.

How Many Scoops of Coffee Per Cup?

If you have a standard coffee scoop at home, it measures roughly two tablespoons. If you do the math, you’ll find out that this comes to 1 scoop for every 8 ounces of water.

How Many Tablespoons For 8 Cups of Coffee?

For 8 cups of coffee, each measuring 8 ounces of water, you will need 16 tablespoons of coffee. However, if you’re using a 5-ounce coffee pot cup for the water, you will need ten tablespoons of coffee.

How Many Tablespoons of Coffee for 10 Cups?

For 8 ounce cups, you need 20 tablespoons of coffee for 10 cups of water. Similarly, for 5-ounce coffee pot cups, you will need 12.5 tablespoons of coffee.

Do check out the following table to find all the measurements you might need to prepare a large batch of coffee perfectly.

Coffee Measurements For 8 Ounce Cups

Number of Cups (8 ounces) of Water Number of Scoops Number of Grams Number of Tablespoons
1 1 14 2
2 2 28 4
3 3 42 6
4 4 56 8
5 5 70 10
6 6 84 12
7 7 98 14
8 8 112 16
9 9 126 18
10 10 140 20

The above measurement table is perfect for drip brewing your coffee. However, if you prefer something like a french press or a cold brew, don’t stick to this table.

Coffee to Water Ratio for a Cold Brew

cold brew

To create a refreshing cold brew concentrate, follow a 1:8 coffee to water ratio. But for a stronger taste, you can even try out a 1:5 ratio.

Remember, cold brews get diluted because of ice water. So creating a strong brew and diluting slowly will give you the best coffee.

Coffee to Water Ratio for Pour-Over Coffee

A 1:17 coffee to water ratio is perfect for pour-overs. However, achieving this without a scale might be difficult. If that’s the case, go for 1-2 tablespoons of coffee for 6 ounces of water.

Coffee to Water Ratio for French Press Coffee

For a French press, your coffee to water ratio will depend on how strong you like your joe. 1:10 (coffee:water) is suitable for a stronger taste. Try out a 1:16 ratio for a slightly weak French Press coffee.

Why It’s Important to Measure Correctly?

Correct measurements will lead you to the perfect cup of joe you want every single time. The best way to measure is using a scale machine.

This is because teaspoons/tablespoons and scoops may have different sizes for different brands and types. However, grams are a ubiquitous measurement.

But what if you can’t afford a scaling machine for your kitchen? Using tablespoons is perfectly fine, then. To make your measurements more accurate in such a case, check the measurements of your coffee cup by using a standard wet measuring cup.

The measurement table above should help you understand how many tablespoons you need for 8 cups of coffee, or more or less. Make sure you bookmark this page to return to it when you’re preparing coffee the next time! Taypresso
